Paul McCartney honored at 33rd Annual Kennedy Center Honors

Ran across this nice bit on the news tonight and thought I would share.
Those who know me, know I am a life-long Beatles fan and after having seen this living legend in concert twice now, I feel like he has definitely earned this recognition, especially since the Kennedy Center had issued a statement back in 2003, stating "Paul McCartney will not be receiving a Kennedy Center Honor," after he had postponed his 2002 award after the ceremony conflicted with a personal obligation.
Take that! lol

Spread the word.

For some reason or another yesterday, I spent a good part of the day looking further into QR Codes; and after lots of reading, I decided that I should create one for this very page and try to spread the word via QR around my hometown.
Ideally, I want to get some stickers printed up with the QR on them and go around and put them up in [somewhat] arbitrary places and see if anything develops from it...a social experiment as it were. And for those that might want to help spread the word, you can always do the same...hell, make a stencil and spray it up on a graff wall, why not? lol. But anyhow, I just kinda of felt like sharing my new love for QR Codes with those who read this...hopefully the word will spread about this little corner of the 'net.

From the Platform: Subway Graffiti, 1983-1989

Here we have an upcoming book based around a subject which has always held my interest, particularly within the recent year or so: graffiti. I always wished I was one of those brave graff artists/taggers (like some of my friends were back in their day) who would risk getting caught by the cops and go out and bomb on walls and trains and all manner of surface...but alas, I never had the courage to get involved in such things. I attribute some of it to the fact that I've never felt I could do and draw some of the amazing things these people could do, although I never tried, so that could also be a contributing factor. Regardless of which though, I love it when books of this nature come out as it allows me to live empirically through the many talented people who's work makes up this book. As a fan of the medium, I just want to give them all my thanks.

More Info:
“From the Platform” is the latest publication to offer a nostalgic review of graffiti in New York. Put together by graffiti writer Paul Cavalieri (who was able to take a wide array of photographs after having learnt much of the Subway timetable), the book stands out from the crown because it concentrates solely on Subway art, created between the mid to late 80’s. Hailed as a golden era of street art, the compilation actually draws from subway graffiti from 1983-1989 when the MTA announced that its fleet was entirely graffiti-free. The book boasts from than 325 color photos across 177 pages and is now available to pre-order from Amazon, with a full release expected in February 2011.

Dazed & Confused “ENCORE” Issue featuring Daft Punk

Well, I'm not a proponent of 3D in the slightest but even that can't stop me from going on the hunt for the upcoming Dazed and Confused issue with the Daft Punk feature. Anyone who knows me even a little probably knows that I LOVE Daft Punk, so if anyone out there knows of a good book store in Miami that has a copy of this, just give me a shout.

Info:
Marking the forthcoming release of the highly anticipated film “TRON: LEGACY”, electro-pop outfit Daft Punk recently starred in this photoshoot for Dazed and Confused magazine. Shot to be viewed in three-dimensions, the piece embraces the technological advancements showcased throughout the motion picture. Captured in Los Angeles by photographer Sharif Hamza, fans will already be aware that Daft Punk have produced the soundtrack for the film and are hence an obvious candidate for a TRON-emulating shoot. The entire feature will be included in Dazed and Confused’s December issue.

Imaginary Foundation “The Undivided Mind” Exhibition

The right side of the brain is responsible for emotions and intuition, the left for logic and reason. Yet the notion of two brains gives rise to the function of one mind. Perhaps it is this one “undivided mind” that presents a way forward through the monumental cultural changes we now face, enabling us to surf this dynamic moment in history from a platform of balance and symmetry. This installation from Imaginary Foundation endeavors to fuse the aesthetic beauty of art and science in order to create a synthesis of mind, one which is as much rational as it is fantastic. In addition, the brand will open a pop-up store for the event, running from November 20th through November 28th, with the show opening Friday, November 19th, 2010. Bone Thugs "Look Into My Eyes" Video

Apparently it's been one of nights where I've been listening to nothing but tracks from the late 1990s...tracks which I consider classic.
Here we have Bone Thugs-n-Harmony's contribution to 1997's Batman & Robin (groan) soundtrack; I try to forget that part, but thankfully the song will always be the redeeming trait of this whole thing. I made this selection because I feel it's an under-appreciated track from Bone Thugs that I will always have a fondness for.

Shwood Sunglasses

Wood's been good to us: it provides the means to sustain fires, build houses, and cross the seas, and leaves way better sexy messages than Brett Farve. Giving you wood...sunglasses: Shwood.

Portland-based Shwood crafts strikingly cool sunglasses by laser-cutting and hand-finishing former trees into the right shape, then 3-ply layering said wood in contrasting grain directions for superior strength, but not superior Strength Shoes, since you know those things couldn't possibly get any better. Their newest model, the Ashland, looks like it belongs on a '70s ski instructor, and’s carved out of East Indian rosewood, which varies in tone from black to dark brown, with a grain structure that's “straight and tight” -- just like military haircuts, as long as you don't ask. Other frames include the Govy, with a squarish almost safety-glasses look (in either dark rosewood or striped zebrawood), and the Canby, a chunky wayfarer in that rosewood/zebrawood, or a light blond maple, who’s apparently managed to lay off her own syrup.

Each frame gets equipped with your choice of Carl Zeiss lenses (grey, amber, mirrored), including polarized versions, and for maintenance, it's advised that you care for the frames by regularly applying beeswax -- something both Tiger and Brett wish they could say was none of yours.

Catch some wood at
Shwoodshop.com. Also, to celebrate the release of the Ashland they're giving away a pair for the next two Thursdays. Just visit their Facebook to enter.

The New York Times: “The Simpsons” Explains Its Button-Pushing Banksy Opening

Following-up on the extremely viral and controversial Banksy opening sequence for The Simpsons, The New York Times speaks with The Simpsons’ executive producer, Al Jean. Some interesting issues are brought including how The Simpsons tracked down Banksy, the authenticity of the animation and the potential repercussions involving The Simpsons’ network, Fox. A list of questions and answers can be seen below.

New Banksy Works in London

As part of the LA premiere for his recent documentary, Banksy produced a work that re-envisioned Jeff Koon’s dog and now, it looks like he’s at it again. Just a few hours after the first airing of his now world-famous take on the opening credits of The Simpsons, Banksy is back on the streets of London. Producing three new works, each piece seems to draw inspiration from pop-culture. The elusive graffiti artist makes reference to Futurama’s Bender, Keith Harring’s Dog and The Clash’s London Calling album cover.

Chromeo Interview | Dazed Digital

Canadian purveyors of piano-tie pop Chromeo are back with their third album 'Business Casual' which straight away gives us a heads up as to where the guys are right now musically. Whilst their last record 'Fancy Footwork' was filled to the brim with buoyant synth-fuelled belters, Dave Macklovich and Patrick Gemayel are getting serious but doing so as nonchalantly as ever. The focus this time round has been on developing their sound with a much more considered approach to their production in addition to their actual song-writing. One would assume that working with Philipe Zdar as well as their musical forefathers Hall & Oates helped the process somewhat. Fret not those of you who fell in love with the catchy choruses though as I can say with some experience that it takes a fair amount of restraint to not sing along to ‘Don’t Turn The Lights On’ on a Monday morning commute. Other excerpts such as ‘Grow Up’ has something of Michael Jackson’s ‘The Way You Turn Me On’ to it and the first single that came from the album ‘Night by Night’ is as funky as hell. Meanwhile, Dave demonstrates his fortĂ© (albeit experimentally he later explains) on ‘J'ai Claque La Porte’ as his Ph.D in French Language at distinguished American University, Columbia is put to good use. To find out more about this new erudite and polished Chromeo, Dazed Digital gave Dave Macklovich (Dave-1) a ring...

Lupe Fiasco | Complex Magazine Interview

Although Lupe Fiasco is arguably one of the hottest rappers in the game right now, there have been some confusion surround the release of his often announced album Lasers.
