Chromeo Interview | Dazed Digital

Canadian purveyors of piano-tie pop Chromeo are back with their third album 'Business Casual' which straight away gives us a heads up as to where the guys are right now musically. Whilst their last record 'Fancy Footwork' was filled to the brim with buoyant synth-fuelled belters, Dave Macklovich and Patrick Gemayel are getting serious but doing so as nonchalantly as ever. The focus this time round has been on developing their sound with a much more considered approach to their production in addition to their actual song-writing. One would assume that working with Philipe Zdar as well as their musical forefathers Hall & Oates helped the process somewhat. Fret not those of you who fell in love with the catchy choruses though as I can say with some experience that it takes a fair amount of restraint to not sing along to ‘Don’t Turn The Lights On’ on a Monday morning commute. Other excerpts such as ‘Grow Up’ has something of Michael Jackson’s ‘The Way You Turn Me On’ to it and the first single that came from the album ‘Night by Night’ is as funky as hell. Meanwhile, Dave demonstrates his forté (albeit experimentally he later explains) on ‘J'ai Claque La Porte’ as his Ph.D in French Language at distinguished American University, Columbia is put to good use. To find out more about this new erudite and polished Chromeo, Dazed Digital gave Dave Macklovich (Dave-1) a ring...

Oh, iPad

I must say that I feel like I've had this real back and forth with the iPad since before its release. Initially, it seems like such a waste of money for what seemed like a blown up version of my iPhone so I wrote off wanting any part of it...but after stopping in at the Apple store on Chicago's Magnificent Mile and actually getting tactile with it and playing around with the device itself, now I really want to get my hands on one I can call my own. Hopefully I can eventually earn up some extra scratch with some of these side projects I've been workin' on with different people but who knows. I'll keep you updated on any further developments with this as it comes up.

JoJo "In The Dark" + Mixtape Download Link

After having a shit-ton of issues with her label and not getting already-completed material released by the label for a slew of seemingly-bullshit reasons, R&B singer JoJo has gotten together with RapUp.com and released her Can't Take That Away From Me mixtape, which acts as something of a prequel to her upcoming album although the sound presented here isn't necessarily an indicator of what that album will sound like.
I do like the track and encourage everyone to check it out.

Also, peep the video below along with the link where you can download the mixtape for free.

CRS "Us Placers"

Always loved this track, ever since I first heard it. I like revisiting it all the time, so I figured I'd share with y'all.

I still wish that the Child Rebel Soldier project between Kanye, Lupe and P will one day see light, but as time goes on it seems less and less likely it'll be anything more than a random track here or there. Oh well, there's always plenty of these dude's individual endeavors to keep me entertained.

Lupe Fiasco | Complex Magazine Interview

Although Lupe Fiasco is arguably one of the hottest rappers in the game right now, there have been some confusion surround the release of his often announced album Lasers. With the emergence of songs like “I’m Beaming,” “Shining Down,” and “What You Want”, there have been some speculation that the Chicago-rapper plans to replace the longplayer with another project titled Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album instead. Fortunately, he served his rock-infused Japanese Cartoon-project and showcased his musical versatility. The good folks over at Complex Magazine sat down with Lupe to talk about and clear things up concerning Lasers and The Great American Rap Album. You can find excerpts of the interview after the jump.
