A Visual History of Daft Punk Helmets



The visual aesthetic of Daft Punk has had just as much of an effect on their popularity as their groundbreaking music. Daft fan wolf_boy2027 put together a visual timeline regarding the evolution of the Daft Punk helmet as worn by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter. The group has been highly visible over the last few months thanks to their inclusion in this season’s TRON: Legacy movie.

The Selby: Pharrell Williams


This is [essentially] my DREAM HOUSE...'Nuff Said.

The Selby enters the home of multi-talented designer, producer, singer and rapper Pharrell Williams in this latest feature. Over the years, we’ve seen many of Williams’ so-called toys and commissioned art pieces all making an appearance from artists including KAWS and Murakami as well as work from Keith Haring. The shoot took place at Williams’ beach-side home in Miami.

TRON x Playboy Photoshoot


The pre-TRON developments take to the sultry road with a photoshoot involving Playboy. As the movie’s instantly recognizable and preferred mode of transportation, the light cycle makes for an important prop as several scantily clad women pose seductively on the bike. A further not-safe-for-work look is available for paying customers over at Playboy.com.

Banksy “Weapon of Choice” Print


The lauded Banksy piece “Weapon of Choice” made its debut on the streets and traveled to the Marks & Stencils show in London. Now three versions of the recognizable work are being offered to the public in extremely limited quantities. There will be a large grey, and smaller red, blue and green iterations of the artwork. The grey piece is limited and numbered to 100, and the other palettes are limited to just 25 pieces. You’ll have to register for a lottery at Pictures on Walls for a privilege to procure any piece, priced at £450.00. All of Banksy’s royalties will benefit the Russian based VOINA artist cooperative.

Booth Moore of All The Rage finds out the inspirations behind the costumes including a nod to Gareth Pugh, how the costumes were lit and of course the experience in trying to put on a TRON costume. Daft Punk, Medicom Toy and Monster join forces to create a TRON: Legacy-inspired pair of headphones. Daft Punk has been a musical cornerstone for the upcoming movie with the headphones representing just the tip of the merchandising iceberg. In terms of features they include light-up LEDs with an aesthetic inline with the costumes worn by Daft Punk in their movie cameo. The headphones will retail for $350 USD and include a copy of the TRON: Legacy soundtrack.

Paul McCartney honored at 33rd Annual Kennedy Center Honors


Ran across this nice bit on the news tonight and thought I would share.
Those who know me, know I am a life-long Beatles fan and after having seen this living legend in concert twice now, I feel like he has definitely earned this recognition, especially since the Kennedy Center had issued a statement back in 2003, stating "Paul McCartney will not be receiving a Kennedy Center Honor," after he had postponed his 2002 award after the ceremony conflicted with a personal obligation.

Ice-Cycle Crewneck Sweater | Ice Cream


It looks our beloved Ice Cream brand is also cashing in on the whole TRON crazeas of late; the brand has unveiled this new crewneck sweater, which pays homage to the classic flick via a TRON-esque graphic.
Dubbed the Ice-Cycle, the piece features a mostly simple look in navy blue, with teal/black/white highlights coming via the inspired artwork. Look for this new release now through select BBC/Ice Cream retail stores.
