Pinball Machine Skate Park
There have been some pretty outrageous skate parks built over the last decade as skateboarding has made the leap from hoodlum pastime to legitimized sport. This Mountain Dew-sponsored Pinball Machine Skate Park in New Zealand, however, may be the most outlandish to date. Built in only 17 days for an upcoming competition, this park cost almost $500,000 to create and will remain open for only 3 weeks once the contest is over. A true replica of a pinball machine down to the lights, sounds and launcher at the beginning, this park is a dream come true for anyone who has ever been a teenage skater.

Spacewalker Junior Lamp
Perhaps movies like Independence Day have made us a bit fearful of what extraterrestrial life might bring to our planet. The little buggers are always shown blasting ray-guns at our historic landmarks instead of, say, coming in peace with a few cold ones. We can tell you this, if some little guy wandered into our place and illuminated our home office with his head glowing like E.T.’s finger, we’d want him to stick around for a while for utilitarian purposes. Spacewalker Junior is the brainchild of Constantin Wotmann and looks like a glowing, stable bobblehead. Use it to light up a shelf or as a floor lamp in any room of your bachelor pad (we assume wives and live-in girlfriends will need a little convincing on the alien light fixture). As long as it doesn’t come to life while we sleep and destroy the Lincoln Memorial we’re cool.

Asher Roth & Nottz "Enforce The Law"
For the latest visual installment from their Rawth EP, Asher Roth and Nottz decided to reinterpret the popular 2001 movie Training Day. In the video, Nottz portrays Denzel Washington's famed character, Detective Alonso Harris, and Roth plays Ethan Hawke's role as his rookie sidekick. As the gun toting, drug smoking, crime fighting duo hit the streets to reenact a few key scenes from the film, they recite their appropriately titled song "Enforce The Law" from inside their undercover cop car. The History of American Graffiti
If we grew up hundreds of years ago we probably wouldn’t think of an overpass as a canvas for a piece of art. (In part because there were no overpasses.) However for as long as we can remember, we’ve liked our art like we’ve liked a lot of things in our lives – with a hint of danger and illegality – so we’ve long been fans of what we’ve dubbed The American Graffiti Movement. And, this is our textbook. The History of American Graffiti explores the entire culture of the art form from guys tagging train-cars back in the day to modern day work in cities across the country. Meet all the players in the game and check out some of their best work in this 400 page book. If they taught this in college we probably wouldn’t have gone to just the exams in Art History.
This'll run you about $24.

Toyota FT-86 II Concept
We’re not sure if Toyota went all Inception on us and stole this right out of one of our dreams, but the FT-86 II Concept looks like a ride straight from our hopeful imagination. More specifically, it looks like a Nissan Z got it on with the Batmobile. We’ve heard the buzz about this rear-wheel drive sports offering from Toyota for a while but it looks as if now we finally have some shots of something close to the final design – and we definitely approve. Apparently Toyota has been waiting to make a not so subtle splash back in the sportscar game and with these stills of the FT-86 II Concept they basically pulled the equivalent of a fat guy nailing a jackknife on us. We’ll be waiting eagerly for its release in 2012 or perhaps late this year.

Marvel Comics x Stussy Collection Announcement
Stussy teamed up with Marvel Comics for a collaboration that immerses classic characters from the Marvel universe and teleports them into Stussy’s galaxy of iconic imagery. The line will be split up into two parts. Series 1, releasing April 27, 2011, features a collection of tees and hats that fuse archival Marvel images with Stussy’s iconic graphic language. Stussy scoured comic books conventions, eBay, and local comic book stores for old issues with classic covers that would mold well with Stussy’s design aesthetic. Scanned from the original comic books and rare collectors posters from the 1960′s – 1990′s, the tee designs capture the essence of the characters, the texture of vintage comic books and the soulfulness of the Stussy brand. Series 2, releasing May 6, 2011, consists of tees and hats that feature new works by a pool of international artists, invited to revisit their childhood inspirations and interpret their favorites utilizing their signature styles. The Stussy x Marvel Project will be available at Stussy.com, Stussy Chapter Stores and select specialty accounts around the world.

The Incredible But True Story of How Nicola Formichetti Got Rick Genest to Model in Mugler
In a short time, the tattoo’d face & body of Rick Genest has flooded the fashion world as somebody who has essentially become the face of fashion brand Mugler. Mugler’s Creative Director Nicola Formichetti initially saw a picture of Genest on the internet which he thought at the time was makeup. Reaching out to Genest over Facebook, over a 2-week period he tried his best to get the necessary documentation (Genest didn’t have a passport) so that he could travel to Paris for the brand’s fall/winter show. A selection of answers can be seen below while the full interview can be seen over at Hint Magazine.

After the release of their third album on September 13th, Chromeo has been working hard and recorded the the worlds shortest album called 'Drive Time'. I guess it consists of 55 tracks totaling 3 minutes.
'Drive Time' was recorded at Stratosphere Sound in New York and mixed in London by Dave Bascombe (Depeche Mode, Goldfrapp, Tears For Fears).
via DropBeatsNotBombs.com...with ’Drive Time’ each track has actually been written. Take ‘Follow’ for example, in it’s seven seconds, there is a distinct bass riff, vocal harmonies, a chord progression and a lead line. In seven seconds!Electronicrumors.com
Konect Tokyo USB Concept Watch
We have featured a number of weird and wonderful creations and concepts from Tokyo Flash here on Geeky Gadgets over the past few years but this new Konect Tokyo USB concept watch is a little more innovative than most.
The idea has been developed by French designer Oliver who has created the concept to help him stop losing USB drives, but also provide a way of listening to the contents on the drive if required using Bluetooth headphones.
Oliver explains that he wanted a very futuristic design, which I think he has definitely accomplished. The USB stick can be removed an then replace when needed. Oliver has even designed a set of Bluetooth headphones in the same futuristic style.

Wale ft. Lady GaGa Chillin'
This track really appealed to me when I first heard it about 2 years ago; not only did it cement how much I liked Wale as an MC but it was also what made me actually take a closer look at the then-relatively less-known Lady Gaga, which would lead to me really liking her as an overall artist...yeah, sometimes she seemingly tries too hard but she's always being creative with it, and that's something I can really appreciate.

Spotlight: Childish Gambino
I've really been jamming to all things Childish Gambino lately. For those who haven't come across this multi-talented gent in one of his many other roles, this is Donald Glover's hip-hop alias. Just read that, I'm sure some may be a bit skeptical but give him a good listen and you will agree that he's a really good rapper who doesn't need to rely on some sort of gimmick. That being said, the man can still be funny and clever on any given track, but no one should go into it expecting anything but solid hip-hop from a talented [and slept-on] artist. Add to that a good sense of style and what comes across as a good, well-balanced disposition and he is poised to blow up HUGE, so make sure you get on this.
Lastly, I leave you with some dope-ass tracks for your listening pleasure:

Neojaponisme: A Bathing Ape Takes a Final Bath
Just a few days ago, the street and fashion world was met with the shocking sale of over 90% of A Bathing Ape and its parent company NOWHERE to Hong Kong fashion conglomerate for minute sum of less than $3 million USD. In an article by Neojaponisme‘s W. David Marx, he parlays his own personal experience with A Bathing Ape and details its subsequent up and down success over the last 10 years which ultimately led to the sale of the brand. Many have speculated as to why the brand was sold for so little, however the Wall Street Journal painted a sobering picture in regards to how I.T is now in possession of NOWHERE’s ¥2.6 billion JPY (approximately $32 million USD) in debt. Looking back at Marx’s article, he speaks about the downfall of BAPE, it’s slight resurgence thanks to Pharrell Williams, and its relationship possessed between A Bathing Ape and the Chinese market. Ultimately, the sale of such a defining piece of Japanese fashion will leave many uneasy but then again, the Japanese economy has been slumping for some time. With ageism becoming a defining factor in its lack of progression on a corporate level, there seems to be larger issues than just the sale of a popular fashion brand. Excerpts can be seen below while the full article is seen here.

NIGO: NOW HERE in China
Here we have an interview featuring NIGO, brought to us all by Hypebeast.com.
Late last month, A Bathing Ape took another big step into China as NIGO was on hand to open his latest store in Beijing. Created in conjunction with I.T, the BAPE STORE Beijing location joins two previous retail locations in Shanghai and Hong Kong. With the disposable income of the China market growing at an alarming rate, the brand who has long been a commonplace within the regional scene will surely see a greater presence with each grown season.
While the fledging Mainland China market wasn’t conducive to BAPE’s expansion until recently, NIGO mentioned that the understanding of both design and subculture are now something the Mainland Chinese are able to connect with. We took the chance to discuss several different topics with the ambitious founder ranging from the beginnings of A Bathing Ape, its recent outwards expansion into diffusion labels, collaborations and the brand’s similarity to Ralph Lauren.

Vandalog: The Death of Banksy
At the onset, Banksy's political commentary in street art form started from the efforts of one solo figure. His art movement has since garnered mass appeal and attention as he slowly seeps his way into mainstream popular culture. The man who represents Banksy will undoubtedly meet his demise some time down the line in the most literal sense, however in an editorial by Vandalog, they argue that we could see the work of Banksy continue onwards for generations. This is based on various arguments including how the authenticity of his work, a team commissioned to do his work and the simplicity of his work all ensure his ongoing legacy. Arguably, Bansky’s drawing power is less about his artwork and more about his social commentary. Perhaps his particular stenciled style interjected with societal opinion done by others will come to represent him in future generations.
I’m inclined to think that Banksy, the man, is a hard working guy who does involve himself in the making of the artwork that he signs. But given all the possibilities for others to be involved in the Banksy brand without the public knowing a thing, it is clear that the Banksy brand can continue to create artwork indefinitely with or without the original man behind the name. Like the many boys who took on the role Batman’s sidekick Robin (oh, haha okay I came up with this metaphor days ago and only now as I write it down do I realize the irony given Banksy’s supposed identity. I’m an idiot), an anonymous artist’s name and image can be taken up by any number of people. If the man behind Banksy ever leaves the Banksy organization, or when he dies, will the public ever know? It’s possible that my grandchildren will be able to see “original” Banksy artwork completed a century from now. Banksy seems to have reached the absurd hyperbole of conceptual art: the original artist may not even need to conceive the artwork for it to bear his name. Banksy has finally achieved what Warhol and others set out to: the artist is truly a brand without a human identity.via Hypebeast
This isn’t to say that Banksy’s death is impossible. It may happen one day. It seems only right that Banksy the brand dies with Banksy the man and it may very well end there, but it would definitely be possible for his team to continue the brand without the man. Then, the questions become would we notice, would we care and how would Banksy the brand change itself from the original intent of Banksy the man?
